On Monday, we were lucky enough to host Faber and Faber's book launch of Willy Vlautin's new novel, 'Lean on Pete'. The author and musician has been described by Mojo as one of America's most fundamental artists in words and music.Willy Vlautin is the author of two highly acclaimed novels, 'The Motel Life' (2006) and 'Northline' (2008) and is the front man of the band, Richmond Fontaine whose latest album is 'We used to think the freeway sounded like a river' (2009). An avid fan of horseracing, he can often be found writing behind a closed circuit monitor behind Portland Meadows race track. For more information see his website, www.willyvlautin.com.
Many thanks to Angus Cargill, Willy's editor at Faber for organising the event with us.

The Hawley Arms takes part in Camden's annual music festival Friday 24th and Saturday 25th April. After being shut last year due to the fire, we are really excited about being one of Camden Crawl's venues for its annual music festival.

However, while you need to buy a Camden Crawl pass to enter other venues, entrance to the Hawley and the music will be free on both days.

A full line up of bands will be announced nearer the time, but it will include our very own Sam McCarthy (whose first single has been selling rapidly over the last few weeks); Brute Chorus; Operahouse; Lulu and the Lampshades; and Rob Skipper and The Musical Differences.
We are also very excited that Glenn Tilbrook of Squeeze fame and The Fluffers (Lord Large, Lucy Shaw and Simon Hanson) will be playing on Saturday with special guests including Drew McConnell (Babyshambles) and Carl Barat (Dirty Pretty Things).

We hope you'll come and join us celebrate the music, but if that's not your thing, you can relax away the weekend on the ground floor of The Hawley which will be operating as normal.

We're sorry for any inconvenience but the first floor bar will be closed from Monday 20th April to the evening of Thursday 23rd April.Since we reopened last November, the upper part of the stairway to the first floor has been encased in a temporary wooden structure, while we awaited the manufacture of a glass canopy, which will come out onto the roof terrace. This is the final part of the Hawley's rebuild and we are really excited that it is now ready to be installed. We look forward to its unveiling at the end of next week.

To celebrate the launch of his first single, 'Cherrytree', Sam McCarthy will be playing at the Hawley next Monday 9th March.A close friend of the Nambucca crowd, Sam's first single has the classic good-times feel that imbues all the music that came out of the sadly now closed venue. 'Cherrytree' has a beautifully uplifting quality and is an unashamed singalong anthem.
Join us at the Hawley on Monday and hear Sam play his new single live along with other of his tracks. Special guests will also be making an appearance.
We hope to see you then.
